The UMBC Cogito group is an interdisciplinary
federation of faculty, research staff, and students who are doing
research on the theory and practice of cognitive information systems.
By cognitive systems we mean systems that are aware of their context,
adapt to and learn from their environment, communicate with other
systems, and can represent and reason with symbolic knowledge.
Faculty and students come from gthe departments of Computer Science
and Electrical Engineering, Information Systems, Mathematics and
                Statistics, Psychology and Philosophy.
Active research areas include machine learning,
data mining, pervasive and context aware computing, software agents,
intelligent interfaces, natural language processing, information
retrieval, intelligent planning, semantic web, and signal processing.
